Burger at The General Greene
When you read enough blogs about hamburgers, you come to find out about the mysterious thing of the outter crust on a hamburger patty. I think my very first hamburger was probably McDonalds or Wendy's and honestly I don't remember. Those things don't have crusts. The Shake Shack burger supposedly develops a nice crust on the outside of the patty but I've mostly encountered inconsistent crustiness (but that's not a diss on SS, still love their burgers). First bite of the burger at The General Greene was a lesson on a hamburger with a solid crust. Unfortunately it was also a lesson on too much crust.

A taste of the black label beef
I've always had this problem with the notion of deliciousness. Take for example, Dr. Pepper. There's nothing like the first sip out of the can of a Dr. Pepper. It's really amazing and delicious. Not everyone love it though. Yesterday I tasted an aged beef cheeseburger. It was delicious, but does everyone love the taste of aged meat? Aged beef is part of the new La Frieda Black Label blend that's being used at City Burger. When City Burger first opened in Midtown, I didn't like them at all but now they may deserve more consideration and praise.

Shake shack UWS
This weekend A Hamburger Today reported the soft opening of the new Shake Shack in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan. I was wandering aimlessly around on Sunday and thought it would be a good idea to check out the new Shack. This one is just like the Shack on 23rd street in Madison Square Park. That shack is plagued by long lines during the summer months. Today was actually one day before the official opening day, and the line was not too bad when I got there. If the lines are manageable, then the folks who live by Columbus Ave and 77th St now have a great new neighborhood burger place.

67 Burger is a good meal
I used to have this thing about finishing everything on my plate. Not sure when it really started but it goes something like this, "Some people can't find enough food to eat and you're gonna throw it away? You prick. Finish him! (btw, only the first 30 seconds of that video is relevant.. ) But that was before I started Food in Mouth and eating like Britney Spears post-pregnancy. So when Pat and I were at 67 Burger, it pained me to walk away from half a basket of sweet potato fries. We had to choose, finish the burger or finish the fries.

Black Iron Burger has room for improvement
Some things are worth the hype. For example, The Michael Phelps Diet. Seriously? How can you go wrong? Pancakes. Ice cream. Hollandaise sauce. Mmmm... Some things are not worth the hype. For example, Black Iron Burger Shop as it stands today. They seems like a great little shop and have only been open for a few weeks. No doubt they can do better in the future. Consider this just an early look at their signature burger.

Blue 9 burger and french fries
Summer is the time for outdoor grilling and things like hot dogs and hamburgers. This summer, I've had my fair share of hot dogs, but not hamburgers. Ever since I started reading Nick's burger reviews at A Hamburger Today, I have this constant craving for hamburgers and cheeseburgers. It's like in the The Sixth Sense. Everywhere in New York, I see dead people hamburgers. And when I passed by Blue 9 last week, I succumbed to the cravings.

Double up at Five Guys
Blogging has taught me a few new terms that most people never care to use. "Blogosphere" is the one that my friend, Eric the Teacher loves to make fun of the most. Other terms are useful, like "beef-to-bun ratio" If you ever read A Hamburger Today or Beef Aficionado, you would become familiar with that term. And quite a useful term because when you upset the perfect balance of the beef-to-bun ratio, your burger eating enjoyment falls. When your burger eating enjoyment falls, you end up talking a lot of trash in an Asian basketball tournament and being threatened by hooligans. So stop calling people gorillas and never downgrade from double beef patty to a "little hamburger."

City Burger
After reading about City Burger a few weeks ago, I got kind of excited at the prospect of a new potential lunch spot. This past weekend, I found myself around midtown and just wanted something quick and tasty for dinner. The review from A Hamburger Today made it seem like it would be good once they work out some kinks associated with being a new restaurant. And everyone who skims through the entries here at Food in Mouth know that I like just about everything. Well, apparently not everything because the hamburger at City Burger was beyond disappointing.

Porter House New York hamburger
After the masa debacle I walked over to Porter House New York and looked for something to eat. I really was not in the mood to eat a whole steak, and the guy next to me at the bar had a really good looking hamburger and I went with that. There is nothing like eating a burger and talking elections with a stranger at a bar. My friend Jon tells me that this blog is comprised mostly of posts about burgers and desserts, and he is right. Burgers and desserts probably rank really high on my list of really awesome foods to eat. I think this week I will try to cook a bit more at home and the post about it next week. On to the beef we go..

Veselka bacon cheeseburger
The other day I came across some mention that Veselka has a great burger. Looked it up online a bit more and saw that it comes recommended as an underrated burger. I walked by it two days in a row and it was packed on both days, the dining room was filled with brunchers therefore I got some take-out instead. There was a slight snafu with charging me the correct price for the burger. The price for the burger is $7.50 on the menu on the window, and $9.50 (maybe $9.25) for the deluxe, which comes with lettuce, tomatoes, and french fries. And this is how the order went...

Prune has a killer burger
Lately I eat a lot of hamburgers. It just sort of happened. Burgers make you feel good about yourself you know. They have this magical power to heal your soul or something, together with freedom fries, life seriously becomes a fairy tale. Prune is this little restaurant in this area that is technically NoHo, but really it is just kind of in the middle of nowhere, across the street from a playground. If you ever walk by on a Sunday during brunch hours, just forget it because the wait just looks insane. They also pack you in like sardines, but if you go during lunch time and you go early, you can score a seat. If you do get a seat, get a burger.

Shake Shack tastes good without long lines
I have very fuzzy memories of Disney Land and Disney World, both of which I have been fortunate enough to visit during my childhood. The one thing that I hated about amusement parks were the lines. Oh man, those lines were long. The one thing in New York that has had consistent long lines the past few years has been the Shake Shack line. In the spring or summer time, if you go on a nice day on the weekend, the line would be brutal. The wait gets to over an hour. Sixty minutes for a hamburger. No hamburger is worth that kind of wait. If the line is long, I much rather go to Goodburger, but since Fall is in full swing, I decided to go back and try the awesome shack burger.

Ruby Tuesday is pricy
Ruby Tuesday started a new slogan called, "simple fresh American dining." Apparently it has not caught on with the burbs people since their profit dropped 49% in the first quarter. Ouch. Perhaps they spent too much money to make their Times Square restaurant look nice. Their CEO has promised to lower the price and have lunch options below $10 dollars in the future. If my hamburger cost $8 dollars as opposed to the $11, it would be just as enjoyable as a Goodburger.

Goodburger has great fries
Last Friday when Shake Shack's line looked too long, I went to Goodburger on Broadway, right by Union Square. I remembered reading that they had good fries, and that's kind of what tempted me. At $6 dollars for a burger, and nearly $13 dollars for a burger, fries, milk shake combo, you knew goodburger wanted to rip me off.

Broome Street Bar
A couple of weeks back I met up with my friends Jeremy and Mary Ann at a bar in Soho called Broome Street Bar. The object of my desire was their supposedly ultra delicious bacon cheeseburger.
