A new dessert Spot from Pichet Ong
Ovaltine ice cream is a great thing. I tried to make it once, and it ended up tasting like... butterscotch. Normally when my culinary skills intersect with fucking it all up, the end result is usually inedible. My roommates can attest to this, as they both tasted my foul tasting chili from two weeks ago. Not sure why my kitchen skills suck so much, but I can actually accept butterscotch ice cream even though I was going for ovaltine. Good news was that I finally got to taste good ovaltine ice cream a few weeks ago. Spot is the new dessert spot (ha!) by Pichet Ong. In addition to the ovaltine ice cream, I stuffed my face with a cupcake and some random dessert with persimmons in it.

Butter lane
I'm a big fan of sampling food. If you ever go to Costco you know exactly what food samples are. That place is just crawling with food samples. Nothing like samples to help you make informed decisions about what kind of food you'd like. I've been around the block a few times and seen quite a few cupcake places and never has a place said, "Here, taste the different types of frosting we have to offer today." It's just... genius. I guess part of the reason Butter Lane lets you taste test is because they offer two main types of cupcake frosting: American and French.

I ate Baba Booey
I just ate Baba Booey. Might have to go run off to see my doctor and get checked for venereal diseases or something. Obviously I didn't actually eat him because I'm trying to eat healthy now. Gotta save my calories for Thanksgiving. What I did eat was the Baba Booey cupcake from Crumbs. Cupcake Takes the Cake reports that "all proceeds... will go to LIFEbeat (The Music Industry Fights AIDS)." Sounds like a good cause for a good cupcake.

Haiku cravings and cupcake jones
It is one of those things, where you wake up really excited and all you want to do is devour... buttered bread. Or cupcakes. Or hummus with bacon. Either way, you surely know what I am talking about. Yea... Oh and my bad about a haiku last week. Summer is in full swing and last Sunday I was busy stuffing my face as I tried to get into shape. Wait, that makes no sense... maybe I can just talk about some cupcakes from Portland. We all love PDX, right?

SSS Banana Pudding ingnites happiness
If you read about the gravel cupcake debacle last week, then you probably wondered what was in my other hand as the cupcake fell to the ground. It was a cup of delicious banana pudding from Sugar Sweet Sunshine. Everyone told me to get it the last time I got cupcakes from SSS. I do not know why it took me this long to go back and try it, but I was thankful to have tried it! Maybe I will try to eat it for breakfast the way Kathy says she sometimes does.

Gravel cupcake and Pinisi
Oh I have got a story for you. I was on a multi-stop food trip and the first stop was at Pinisi. All my blogging friends are big fans of Pinisi. Robyn, Kathy, and Tina all like this bakery. My expectations were sky high. I walked in and requested a single red velvet cupcake and paid 4 dollars for it. I was kinda shocked at the price tag, but this is my life. Not yet ready to eat a cupcake at the time, therefore I carried it in the plastic take-out container and walked towards the Lower East Side (LES). After buying something else and having dessert in both hands I was ready for my quest. Here was where it started to go all wrong...

Swirlz Cupcakes is the Chicago Cupcake response
Woo hoo, I love guest blogging days. Jonathan who brought us Andrzej Grill, is back for another guest post. And it is about cupcakes! I am making everyone think non-stop about cupcakes because that is how I roll. Read on! btw, anyone else here in the Chicago area?)
For some peculiar reason (I just can't imagine why?!), for the last few weeks I've had these non-stop cupcake fixation. Luckily there are two cupcake places close to the work. One, Molly's Cupcakes, is directly across from clinic while the other, Swirlz, is directly across from the main hospital. So no matter where I am, I have options for fulfilling my cravings close by.Swirlz Cupcakes is the Chicago Cupcake response is continued here...

snice cupcakes
"They are all good. I come here just for the cupcakes."
The woman to my left spotted my indecisiveness at the counter of Vegan goodness at 'Snice in Park Slope. My first thought was, "That sign says these are all Vegan, what kind of crack are you smoking? They are ALL good?" It was also a surprise that someone would randomly talk to me - usually on the street my facial expression exudes, "I am hungry/cranky, you look like a donut, and I want to jump on you faster than a governor at the Emperor's VIP club" Kinda scares people away here in New York. I kindly asked the woman for advice and settled upon a red velvet cupcake. And a carrot cake cupcake. And an apricot square. That is all, I swear.snice cupcakes is continued here...

Sugar Sweet Sunshine is the best
I am really OCD whenever a food group gets into my brain. I just have to go try out a bunch of them, and that is what happened last week when I tried both Buttercup Bake Shop and Sugar Sweet Sunshine. There are worse things to be obsessed about, like cleaning your room, which I am definitely not obsessed about... And just like at Buttercup, I felt the need to get more cupcakes than necessary because I did not eat lunch that day. Who does not love cupcakes for lunch?!? It is the meal of a lifetime. Four different types of cupcakes, and at a dollar fiddy a piece, that is only $6 for a box of four cupcakes! Dear life, I love you. And let us get into the details.

Buttercup Cupcakes FTW
You know, whenever I take out-of-focus pictures, I have a tendency to Photoshop the crap out of them because well... it takes a lot of effort to haul all the way back up to the UWS to get cupcakes. And even though the Times said bloggers get fat, I really could care less. Here at Food in Mouth, I am blessed with the metabolism of a mid-twenties dude. Cupcakes in bunches is kind of my motto now. And up ahead we have some overblown pictures of cupcakes from Buttercup Bake Shop.
