Cupcakes still have their haters. Even with many detractors, the movement will probably continue to grow. Over thinking the cause behind the movement is useless. Sometimes people just like something. Cupcakes are inherently more adorable than pies, doughnuts, or cookies. A little frosting goes a long way to winning the hearts of those who love rainbows and unicorns. During the early days of my food blogging, I was really into cupcakes. Sugar Sweet Sunshine remains number one in my heart because they offer up decently sized cupcakes that are delicious and affordable. Seriously at one point I even scrapped off gravel to eat a cupcake. What a weirdo. Cupcakes were a fad for me - cool for a moment but not sustainable in the long run. Of course I ate cupcakes for the blog but sometimes didn't even bother to write about it. I was curious about this new shop opening up in Soho called Little Cupcake Bakeshop. Ovaltine ice cream is a great thing. I tried to make it once, and it ended up tasting like... butterscotch. Normally when my culinary skills intersect with fucking it all up, the end result is usually inedible. My roommates can attest to this, as they both tasted my foul tasting chili from two weeks ago. Not sure why my kitchen skills suck so much, but I can actually accept butterscotch ice cream even though I was going for ovaltine. I'm a big fan of sampling food. If you ever go to Costco you know exactly what food samples are. That place is just crawling with food samples. Nothing like samples to help you make informed decisions about what kind of food you'd like. I've been around the block a few times and seen quite a few cupcake places and never has a place said, "Here, taste the different types of frosting we have to offer today." It's just... genius.
