Trying cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcakes

Cupcakes still have their haters. Even with many detractors, the movement will probably continue to grow. Over thinking the cause behind the movement is useless. Sometimes people just like something. Cupcakes are inherently more adorable than pies, doughnuts, or cookies. A little frosting goes a long way to winning the hearts of those who love rainbows and unicorns. Did you know there's a show called My Little Pony Friendship is Magic? Why does it exist? It's cute. Cupcakes are similarly cute. The craze is big in Washington D.C. too. One of the most famous cupcake shops in DC even has a show on TLC called DC Cupcakes. It's the Magnolia's of Washington DC.... [Continue reading]

Little Cupcake Bakeshop is average and pricey

During the early days of my food blogging, I was really into cupcakes. Sugar Sweet Sunshine remains number one in my heart because they offer up decently sized cupcakes that are delicious and affordable. Seriously at one point I even scrapped off gravel to eat a cupcake. What a weirdo. Cupcakes were a fad for me - cool for a moment but not sustainable in the long run. Of course I ate cupcakes for the blog but sometimes didn't even bother to write about it. I was curious about this new shop opening up in Soho called Little Cupcake Bakeshop. Cute names sometimes don't mean much. After all, everyone these days love Torrisi Italian Specialities. Me thinks they could easily be called, "Bitch, I'm delicious" and still have people be down with their food. After all that's what we want right? To be down with the food. So can I get down with these cupcakes from Little Cupcake Bakeshop?... [Continue reading]

A new dessert Spot from Pichet Ong

Ovaltine ice cream is a great thing. I tried to make it once, and it ended up tasting like... butterscotch. Normally when my culinary skills intersect with fucking it all up, the end result is usually inedible. My roommates can attest to this, as they both tasted my foul tasting chili from two weeks ago. Not sure why my kitchen skills suck so much, but I can actually accept butterscotch ice cream even though I was going for ovaltine. Good news was that I finally got to taste good ovaltine ice cream a few weeks ago. Spot is the new dessert spot (ha!) by Pichet Ong. In addition to the ovaltine ice cream, I stuffed my face with a cupcake and some random dessert with persimmons in it.... [Continue reading]

Butter lane

I'm a big fan of sampling food. If you ever go to Costco you know exactly what food samples are. That place is just crawling with food samples. Nothing like samples to help you make informed decisions about what kind of food you'd like. I've been around the block a few times and seen quite a few cupcake places and never has a place said, "Here, taste the different types of frosting we have to offer today." It's just... genius. I guess part of the reason Butter Lane lets you taste test is because they offer two main types of cupcake frosting: American and French.... [Continue reading]

baba-booey

I ate Baba Booey

I just ate Baba Booey. Might have to go run off to see my doctor and get checked for venereal diseases or something. Obviously I didn't actually eat him because I'm trying to eat healthy now. Gotta save my calories for Thanksgiving. What I did eat was the Baba Booey cupcake from Crumbs. Cupcake Takes the Cake reports that "all proceeds... will go to LIFEbeat (The Music Industry Fights AIDS)." Sounds like a good cause for a good cupcake.... [Continue reading]
