Eat an ice cream sandwich already

Looking out the window after work these days is not as depressing as it was a few short months ago. I have an increased appreciation for this whole earth rotates on an axis and it spins around the sun. Loving longer days is easy to do. Want to know what do you do as the days grow longer? You eat ice cream sandwiches because longer days equal warmer temperatures. Enjoying any type of ice cream dessert is wise during the warmer months is the best, and the ice cream sandwich is simply one of the better options since you combines a baked good with a dairy dessert. This is not advisable if you're a lactose-intolerant vegan, of course. But that life is not worth living anyway. Sometimes you can make the ice cream sandwich with cookies. Although these things appear to work best with brownies because a cookie doesn't freeze as well sometimes. You can get an ice cream sandwich from Bierkraft for around $6. It might be a bit steep but I don't eat this everyday. It's a treat.... [Continue reading]

Last slice of pizza at Campo de Fiori

At some point in your life, the cabbage patch was the dance craze. If you were born after that craze, I don't know you. You probably dabbled in it at some point. Maybe it was a party where you didn't know anyone or a time at home when you busted out limes and tequila all by yourself. Note: that wasn't me because I was like 9-years-old back then. Right now the "How to Dougie" instructional video is on my desktop. Time has changed, although the desire to dabble in what's hot hasn't. I haven't even started to learn the dance, and am already anchored by self-doubt. Move on my toes? Slide my knees this way or that? Impossible. That's how it goes when I dabble in a new thing. All of a sudden I look around to make sure that no one saw it. No evidence? The awkwardness didn't happen! With food it's often the same story; try something new hoping to understand what the buzz is, but maybe the wrong item is ordered or it's an off day. I stopped by Campo de Fiori when they were about to wrap up lunch service, and snagged up the last Margherita slice.... [Continue reading]

Free drinks at the best brunch in Brooklyn

If an alien lands on Earth, comes to New York, the alien would be confused by why New Yorkers would stand outside of a restaurant for over an hour for lunch on Sundays. Are New Yorkers too good for Aunt Jemima? Does brunch gets people horny?. Brunch doesn't exactly get me hard, however I do find myself being part of the shuffle on the weekends. I broke my hour-wait cherry during my visit to Buttermilk Channel in Brooklyn. Never before had I voluntarily let over an hour pass before eating. In fact, I had always made it a priority to not wait on the weekends. After all, weekends come at a premium, why spend it waiting? But then I'd hear from friends about Buttermilk Channel and it came up while surfing blogs, and the noise just became too loud. An investigation had to happen. Why all these yuppies be queuing up?!... [Continue reading]

Nostalgia for the South and hot chickenn

Nostalgia is about as useful as a GED. I used to live in Nashville, Tennessee and I try not to have fake nostalgia about that place. If blogger was around when I was in high school, who knows what kind of memories would have been saved. Luckily for me, it was still a pain to even upload a HTML file back then. What I do remember about Nashville is that in the late 90s, there were better places to live as a non-white and vehemently atheist individual. But in New York City, I feel like it's a badge of honor to say that I'm from the south. The truth is I didn't like the south, sort of still don't. The idea of Southern food appeals to me now simply because I really know nothing about it. Peaches Hot House is supposed to be a take on Nashville-style spicy fried chicken. Apparently now if you say 'hot chicken' you're talking about Nashville hot chicken. For real, ask Wikipedia. The cool thing about Peaches is that I can just visit Brooklyn instead of going back to a land that isn't deserving of nostalgia.... [Continue reading]

Chicken biscuit

Few things get me as excited as fried chicken. It's something that I've had to get accustomed to in my older years. Why? Well it's much harder to burn off two large servings of fries or fried chicken as one ages. When you can get a small serving of fried chicken, it's a blessing in disguise. Under normal circumstances, I would struggle to restraint myself from eating fried food until my belly is full. But when the servings are individualized like in a chicken biscuit, and the biscuit is $6 dollars, it really puts things into perspective. Normally $6, for what is essentially a fried chicken cutlet sandwich, would give me pause. And it did here as well. But the reputation of Pies and Thighs is strong among the NYC food blogeratti. James at The Eaten Path is a fan, Tia at Bionic Bites thinks it's alright.... [Continue reading]
