Food in Mouth

tous lse jours koreatown

Tous Les Jours opens in Koreatown

For those who aren't in Koreatown all the time, you might have missed that Koryodang closed. You know what New York needs as a replacement? Another French-Asian bakery, obviously. This one is called Tous Les Jours. It's a huge chain with over 1,000 stores world wide. In the United States, they also have locations in California, Texas, Georgia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. New York isn't so special, we're like the 16th store they opened in the U.S. Honestly, what you find here is very similar to what was at Koryodang. They refreshed the interior and it looks like they have more baked goods on display but I didn't want to take a picture of the interior because it wasn't that busy and they would think I'm a weirdo (not untrue).

tous les jours bread

I got some melon pan, which was $1.75. Decently tasting enough. I have no idea what flavor this was besides being sweet and green. You'll see the green part in the next picture. Being green is enough for Kermit and is all I ask for in a melon pan. Tous Les Jours satisfied in that sense.

Tous Les Jours appears to have Korean shaved ice on the menu too, but the menu near the register showed the most affordable one being $11 dollars. That is not a great deal for shaved frozen water with some azuki beans on top. I passed on that enticing offer. I think Tous Les Jours reminds me a lot of Paris Bakery, also in K-town. Which is to say, these Korean bakeries remind me absolutely nothing of bakeries in Paris, but hey, slap Paris or French words on that mother and your global domination is going to come. What this place will be useful for is if you want something sweet after visiting the food court a few steps away. Don't worry about how Koryodang is closed. Tous Les Jours will easily replace it.

  • that melon pan sure looks delish but I wonder how they'll compete with so many other bakeries that sell pretty much the same things

  • @Ben,

Yea, I think Paris Baguette is just right across the street. There's probably just enough room for one of these fancy-ish looking Asian-French bakeries on 32nd street. Let's see they compete against each other. Neither appears worried to compete on the price though.

  • Looks like it was soborobbang. Not sure why it was green, possibly green tea flavor? I had a regular one a few months ago. Try the one at Paris Baguette. It's much better.
