Fried pork chops that hit the spot
Only a fool would think about getting a new job, finding a new rental apartment, and writing a mashup web app all at the same time, but here I am, attempting all three things. It helps that Steph is spearheading the efforts for apartment hunting but damn, if there's one thing to really get a person to motherfucking hate New York City and the laws of supply and demand, it's apartment hunting in this damn city. Luda probably said it best. Yea... So I had some lunch from La Taza De Oro last week. It wasn't as great as Linsanity or anything like that, but it was pretty good. I mean, fried pork chops + rice and beans? Awesome.
Rice and beans to me is like a Snickers bar. There's detractors that just don't like it. And there's fans that swear by it. I like rice and beans. It's not too carb-y because I love carbs. My problem is that I don't know what's a good or bad version. As long as they're not dry, I love 'em. It's comfort food even though it's unfamiliar to me.
The highlight of the lunch was of course fried pork chops. They deep fry these suckers I think, and they are glorious. Pork chops are good in any cuisine. I normally like them the way it is at Excellent Pork Chop House, but La Taza De Oro knows what's up as well.
The pork chops and rice and beans is a very filling and delicious lunch that I couldn't finish. In fact one could probably divide the pork chop and rice and beans into two different meals. Spread out the calories. i want to say this cost between $8 and $9 dollars but my math skills fall out when I'm hungry. I don't think La Taza De Oro is going to revolutionize food or anything like that. It's not even the flavor of the moment. It's not Jeremy Lin. It's more like Kurt Thomas. Been around for a while, steady goes the beat.

I love black beans. Were these seasoned or just plain? Hopefully, these hole in the wall places won't succumb to real estate greeds.

@kim,
These were just plain. I had to take bites of the pork chop to get some saltiness in there.
