Stracciatella pizza at Motorino
Today I have to shout out to the informal restaurants out there that don't care if you just share one entree between two people and then leave without eating/drinking anything else. Now I get that restaurants got businesses to run but sometimes when you're eating at like 4pm in the afternoon, and there's no rush, then it should be ok if a couple doesn't order like it's chow time. So thank goodness that Motorino in the East Village doesn't mind when all you wanna do is stop in for a quick bite. At some other places, sometimes the server will visibly be disappointed or push super hard on other items on the menu, but here the server didn't do that. The busperson sorta was rushing to pick up our plate within five seconds of picking up the last slice, but you know... can't win them all I guess.
Steph and I shared the Stracciatella pie. Wikipedia tells me that stracciatella is made with "torn pieces of mozzarella and cream." And the rest of the pizza is comprised of basil, olive oil, and sea salt. It was cool to see that at the East Village location they were generous with the basil because one time we had this pie in their Brooklyn location and it was just like a cheese pie that didn't have basil or salt. Thankfully in the East Village location, it's all good. At $17 split between two, it's actually a great in-between meal snack.
What I really love about Motorino pies are the crust. Man that stuff is soft and pillowy. I know that there will always be more and more Neapolitan pizza places opening up in New York. Last month we saw how you could get a decent pie at Donatell's too. Although that pie isn't one that might blow me out of the water, it might rock your world differently. The best way to put it is, maybe pizza is like vibrators. Look, if you got a good, trusty, reliable one, you'll miss it when it's gone. Trust me, I know because I saw last week's episode of The Walking Dead (currently the best TV show on air now). So maybe I like Motorino more than some of the other places is because I've gotten used to the way they do things and it's grown on me.

So true Danny! I never get why -during downtimes between meals- servers are irked when we place smaller orders. If the food and service is good, we will be back for larger orders another day. That was cool for you to give a shoutout.
I would definitely try that pizza after seeing your pic and hearing your description. For some reason I am really enjoying pizza's without tomato sauce lately. Your take on the reliability of pizza is spot on...

@Shine,
Word. I totally appreciate when servers are just like, 'Hey, easy mid-afternoon customers!' So it's good to look out for places like that.
