Love and eating huarache
Huarache, I know this is going to sound weird. But... do you believe in love at first sight? The kind of love that makes you feel like you know the food? Maybe in a different life? Do you remember? I know it won't make sense. A few days ago I was reading blogs, and I saw you... it was like i was hit over the head... all these memories came washing back. Like it was part of my life, but it was another life. In those memories, I remember there was a plane crash, and I was on an island... you were there. We knew each other... liked each other. Now I can't get you out of my brain that's why when I saw you, I had to have you. Maybe you don't remember me... But it's ok.. I know, I'm crazy.
When I was at the Red Hook ball fields, that's how it was with the huarache ($6) from the Country Boys cart. The tortilla had a freshness that you could discern. The filling on top of the tortilla included chorizo, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and cilantro. You get a choice of meat, and I can only recommend It's only natural to love a dish like this. I don't know why it took this long to try a huarache, it feels like something that I could have loved all my life.

I went to the Red Hook ball fields and failed to try a huarache! The pupusa, tamale, and tacos filled me up but next time, I'll definitely make room. Hey, if there's a chance for love at first sight, I'm down!

If you need to get your huarache fix during the week, there are plenty to choose from in East Harlem. I'm sure Sunset Park has plenty of options too, but I haven't checked that out yet.

I love huaraches! I can't believe you haven't had them before. Did you get one with fresh corn tortilla? I couldn't tell from your picture.

Goddamn, I can't tell if that tortilla is ever so slightly crunchy or ever so pillowy soft. Or a combination of both. Mind = blown. I always had a soft spot for the huarache from Tacqueria on the UWS, but I've been told those are rather mediocre.
