Chinatown ice cream factory is awesome during the winter

Oh man, today is awesome. Today is like, Obama day or something. A couple of my hype-hater friends aren't so excited. But fuck 'em. There's enough joviality going around. Speaking of happy things, I had some ice cream this past weekend. It wasn't just any ordinary ice cream. No, this was Chinatown Ice Cream Factory ice cream. They serve flavors like lychee, taro, almond cookie, and black sesame. It's not really your typical neighborhood ice cream shop. The best part was that we ate it outside in 25 degree weather and the ice cream did not melt at all. See, winter is the best time to eat ice cream!

I can't really believe that this was my first time mentioning the Chinatown Ice cream factory because I go there more than any other ice cream place. The flavors they serve are pretty unique compared to places like Baskin Robbins. Black sesame is probably my favorite flavor, with taro, lychee, and almond cookie all bunched in second place. I wonder why other ice cream places don't adopt some of these flavors. Is it possible that only Asians like the black sesame ice cream flavor?

If you like exotic or interesting flavors, Chinatown Ice Cream factory would be a great place for you to try. They also have normal flavors like vanilla, chocolate, etc. They really have something for everyone. The one downside about this place is that a single scoop is $3.75. Not exactly cheap. The recession has done nothing to help the pricing of ice cream in the city. Sometimes it makes me wonder why I even eat out. The cool thing about the single scoop is that you can tell them to do half-half. So you could say half taro and half black sesame. Or half almond cookie and half black sesame. Oh man, now I'm hungry...

Anyway, the rest of the day will be dedicated to Obama-mania. So maybe I should go have a little more ice cream and celebrate the occasion.

  • Nope, not only Asians. I love black sesame ice cream. During the lunch in the summer, I would get it from Cafe Zaiya and walk back to work. I've only gone to Chinatown Ice Cream a handful of times. I'm still scared to try the durian one.

  • Hmm, ice cream. But you know what really impressed me about this post. . .that you know some really BIG haters. Yeash.

  • @Blondie,

    Ohhh! The Cafe Zaiya soft serve! that is pretty tasty, I agree with you. Next time I gotta be on the lookout for the durian flavor. Didn't see it last time but that sounds super interesting.

    @Jonathan,

    Yea, you know one of the haters. We used to call him Shorty. haha

  • Black sesame ice cream is seriously the best flavor. No competition. I can't bring myself to even try any other flavor here, 'cause it makes me sad when I miss out on the black sesame...

    That said, though, I actually like the black sesame flavor at Sundaes & Cones better -- sometimes, Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a bit too icy for me. They have a couple more Asian flavors there too, like taro, red bean, green tea, etc. Have you tried there yet?
