Brunch at Los Pollitos

Everyone has one of those neighborhood standbys that they can count on for a solid meal. It's usually a place that's pretty popular in the hood and the food is pretty good. It's hardly ever mind blowing food because if it was that good, you'll never get a seat. As long as it's good enough and tasty and accommodating for you and your friends/family, then it's a great spot. Los Pollitos II is one such place around Park Slope. I'm sure there are haters or whatever, but other common favorites like Al Di La or Franny's just aren't cheap enough to become a regular dining destination.

egg-omelette

For about $10 dollars per person, you can have a filling and satisfying brunch at Los Pollitos. I had some eggs with plantains and beans. Ming had some sort of omelette and Patrick and an egg dish with chorizo. It would have been smart to take a picture of the menu, but you're not getting it. I just don't work that hard when I'm hungry.

For my plate, they really fried the eggs well. The bottom was nice and crispy. I was always told to make eggs on medium or medium-low heat, thus reducing the crispiness on the bottom of the eggs. Here, I think they went with high heat to get the egg to have a nice caramelized bottom.

eggs-and-sausage

The dish Pat had was more like sausage with some eggs mixed in. Usually it's probably the other way around but they really piled on the sausage and the egg was just interlaced in the porky goodness. It's great if you love sausage and slightly less great if you want more eggs. I didn't have any of Ming's dish so can't really tell you much about that.

On Saturday I talked about chicken wings and Brandon Roy. It probably didn't make much sense but the thing about writing blog posts on the weekend is that it never makes much sense. It's also never a good idea to write late at night because sometimes you get stupid and end up surfing youtube. And then you end up listening to a Spanish song and not understanding a word. Just watch. I swear, this sounds great when you're sleepy.

  • Hahahaha. "My heart is hanging in your hand." That is super cheesy.

  • hahahaha, i have no idea wtf they're singing about.

  • i've never understood why people have any reason to hate on this place. los pollitos is hands down one of our favorite go-to places in park slope. where else could you order a whole, perfectly moist rotisserie chicken, a large chicken soup (some of the best I've EVER had), a large order of tostones w/ garlic sauce, large salad, and large (and i mean LARGE) side of rice and beans and only spend $20. that meal feeds me and my husband for lunch and dinner for 2 or 3 days. it is one of our faves and i love it. love, love, love it. thanks for the nice post!

  • If you walk down 5th ave towards Flatbush, there's another place that does chicken. It's called Marine's or something like that. Pretty straight forward and more of your standard chicken/oxtail plus rice and beans type of place. They're pretty good too!
