Shack custard now with bacon
It tastes better with bacon. At least that's what most people tell me. When I was at VooDoo Doughnuts earlier this year, that theory proved to be accurate. What better way to celebrate the scientific method than to eat more foods topped with bacon? Critics may say that it's excessive. My doctor might tell me to slow it down. But I only listen to one person and... wait, no I only listen to my stomach and it's as big as a person. And when I saw a dude at Shake Shack with an ice cream cone topped with bacon... I had to see what was up.
"Hey man, what's that?"
"It's pancake custard topped with bacon! It's so good!"
"Oh yea? Is the bacon extra?"
"No they just asked me if I wanted it and it's free!"
Since I love free toppings, it seemed like a great idea to eat frozen custard in 50 degree weather. Not just eat it either, to eat it with BACON! Oh my imaginary cardiologist is just pissed off right now.
The pancake custard has been covered at Serious Eats: NY. But last week, Blondie and Brownie revealed that that was bacon topping.
So I guess it's not news, but here's photographic evidence of the bacon topping. You've already heard much about the pancake custard that doesn't really taste like pancakes... it sort of tastes like eggnog, you know just eggs and cream. It's nice and rich. The bacon adds a nice touch because it's a little crunchy and also the saltiness really balances out the flavors. It's good times.
Wait, I actually just checked Shake Shack's custard calendar for November and it's not even available anymore! This is what I get for waiting two days to post! But whatever, wait til next year!

Hey, that's my Twitter comment that Brownie and Blondie were linking to! I actually would have preferred smaller bits of crispier bacon. I also thought that the custard didn't taste like pancakes but it tasted more like yellow cake batter to me.

Mmm, bacon. Oh the wonders of Twitter, I didn't even realize that Kathryn tweeted it. I was probably focused on the 'bacon' part of it, and I kind of suck at Twitter. I was going to go on Thursday and see about the bacon, but I was a bit custarded-out.

Damn - that looks amazing! I really enjoyed Vosges' Bacon Bar and don't doubt that this would be amazing!

@Su-Lin: I have tried the Vosges Bacon Bar as well as the Vosges Bacon Truffle (part of the Jazz collection). The truffle > bar. And the custard > truffle.
On a related note, you all need to try the bacon and egg pancakes at Shopsin's.

That looks more than good... it looks fan- fucking-tastic, thats what! In fact, to celebrate this achievement, I made myself an omlette for breakfast. But not your typical ingredients. No, this Hungry Bitch made his own bad self a 4 egg, bacon and rum-raisin ice cream omlette for breakfast. Yes, the ice cream melted, as one might expect, but it was a great way to start the day. Of course I washed it down with a few gin and tonics.

@kathryn,
Oooh ok! I saw your picture of the custard. The bacon bits on yours looked really awesome.
@blondie,
I wonder if there will be fun toppings on November custards...
@Su-lin,
Mmm... that bacon bar is still on my to-do list. Is it easy to polish off a whole bar in one sitting?
@Hungry,
You sure you didn't make a moose burger with the omlette?
