Dessert trucks of revolution
"I said, how bout a revolution? And he said right." A food truck revolution is exactly what we need in New York City. If we could have trucks in convenient areas similar to how it is in downtown Portland, then I would be a happy man. Dessert Truck is helping to start that revolution. The Dessert Truck goodies can make anyone feel good about a possible revolution of delicious food served from a truck. If you are not feeling excited, let me do that for you (and by that I mean yes, let me feel you... uh...)
When Dessert Truck first came out, I thought it was just a crazy idea. Who would every buy desserts from a truck?! Everyone would, and the reason is that they serve serious desserts at a very reasonable price of $5 dollars. After seeing everyone praise their offerings, I decided to have a taste.
I wanted to try the milk chocolate and peanut butter mousse because I like the chocolate and pb combo in any form. Smooth and rich, the mousse goes down very easy. The trick is to dig down and get to the peanut butter portion which is at the bottom of the mousse. There are some caramel popcorn at the top that offer a good crunch in contrast with the soft mousse and it works well in tandem.
The creme brulee from Dessert Truck is also top notch. While you wait for your dessert, you can glance into the truck as they prepare it. You can see someone use a little torch and scorch the top of the creme brulee for that nice caramelized crunch at the top. When you break the caramelized sugar at the top, your spoon sinks into a decadent custard. They add vanilla to the creme brulee and when you reach the bottom of the dessert, you can see the tiny dots of vanilla. It's like little bits of delicious that try to hide from you... but they cannot hide from me! It seems that Dessert Truck likes to hide extra goodness at the bottom of the dessert. If you get some, dig deep early and see if you can find peanut buttery or vanilly goodness.
With Treats Truck, Waffle Truck, and potentially a dumplings truck, I think the food truck revolution in New York City is underway. I am pleased and excited about it. Oh and who knows where the opening lyric is from? Without cheating of course.

I've had a song running through my head the entire time reading this, though I feel like the lyrics are different. Still, I'll tell you what I'm thinking and you can tell me I'm wrong, I'm singing "You say you want a revolution, well, all right..." the BEATLES... Greatest. Band. EVER. :)

Ok, I was wrong on both the song and I got my lyrics a little out of order, I skipped a part. Oops!

Om nom nom. I loved that caramel corn on the pb mousse. Is it wrong that I'm unreasonably excited for the dumpling truck?

I like the idea of a "dumpling truck" but Rickshaw isn't *that* good. I mean, it's not bad, it's just, missing something. It's a shame though, because I love Anita Lo. I should start frequenting the dessert truck. Grad school is going to make me gain weight, isn't it?

That creme brulee looks fantastic, and to be able to get it anytime out of a truck! I am super jealous. Mmm, and peanut butter mousse...

i LOVE the chocolate and pb combo. It is brilliant. I would even just have a piece of toast with pb and melted chocolate on top... (even?!)

Yvo,
Ah... I never listen to the Beatles. haha. The song is by this band called O.A.R which stands for 'Of A Revolution'. They're very much like a college band, very upbeat and such. Now maybe they jacked that lyric from the Beatles, I dunno!
BrownieMmmm.. caramel corn. I love that stuff. We used to get tubs of that at home, those were the days! I am also curious about the truck. While I'm not crazy about Rickshaws, if it comes in an actual rickshaw, I would buy it!
Ang,
I'm with you yo. If it's in a truck... show me the dumpling! And yes, expect 15 lbs from grad school.
Aubrey,
Yes, a dessert truck! With creme brulee! It still blows my mind :P
Veronica,
Whoa.. toast with pb and chocolate... I might have to try that!
