Caribbean Spice off to a shaky start
Sometimes my mind tricks my taste buds. It is kind of like when I trick my friends with the weather report. You see, every time my friend Jeremy asks me about the weather, my response is always like, "It is sunny, but breezy," or "It kind of cold, but I guess you can do without a jacket." I do this so much that there is a joke about "Danny's Weather Report." Basically you never listen to it because it is tricky. See, sometimes when I see a food cart, my mind tells me, "Food cart! You love it! They might suck but they might be good." This time around? It was bad.
I saw Zach of Midtown Lunch cover this new Caribbean Cart on 46th street and was overjoyed with the prospect of another Caribbean place. Who does not lover Jerk Chicken or Oxtails? Huh?!? Yes, well apparently the persho who cooks that cart does not lover oxtail because I ordered the oxtail and it was obvious the food was not cooked with love that day.
What went wrong? The rice and peas was a bit too dry, and the star attraction just left me sad. Oxtail is supposed to be braised and fall off the bone, and soft. When you get it it, you should be able to easily pull the meat off of the bone and offer up the goodness to your taste buds. But noooo, this meat required me to stick the fork in there, and knaw it off. Big no-no.
Since this is a new cart, and I like oxtail and jerk chicken, I will go back and try more in the coming weeks. They are off to a shaky start though (kind of like these Yankees... 12-2?!?), and they might keep me searching for other lunch options.

tragic. i'm down in the low 30s, but i'd walk up to 46th for some good jerk chicken.

There's a dominican luncheonette on 35th with oxtail (among other things). Never had it, but their other stuff is super yummy in the 'going to clog your arteries' kind of way.
