Swirlz Cupcakes is the Chicago Cupcake response

Woo hoo, I love guest blogging days. Jonathan who brought us Andrzej Grill, is back for another guest post. And it is about cupcakes! I am making everyone think non-stop about cupcakes because that is how I roll. Read on! btw, anyone else here in the Chicago area?)

For some peculiar reason (I just can't imagine why?!), for the last few weeks I've had these non-stop cupcake fixation. Luckily there are two cupcake places close to the work. One, Molly's Cupcakes, is directly across from clinic while the other, Swirlz, is directly across from the main hospital. So no matter where I am, I have options for fulfilling my cravings close by.

Since I've been spending most of my time close to Swirlz, it has been the main dealer for when I get the cupcake crave. Swirlz is a small store tucked away in the heart of Lincoln Park with only two tables and a small display for cupcakes. While they may not be the cheapest cupcakes ($3) or vegan (though there are gluten free options), Swirlz has some of the prettiest cupcakes around. I often find myself staring at them for a little longer than I need to and whisper softly, "you may be beautiful, but I'm going to eat you anyway."

I once heard someone call them cupcakes for "adults." I'm not sure what that means, but their cupcakes definitely are less sweet and sugary than some of the other cupcake places around. Either way, I like it. The frosting is light and delicate. And there are enough flavors to entertain any palate.

The flavor options change depending on the day you go; there are a few staples, but there are rotating daily flavors and a surprise cupcake. My favs include: Red Velvet, Tiramisu, PB+J and S'mores. But no matter what I get, I think they got their slogan right, "cupcakes make people happy." Too bad I'm not so sure about my waistline.

  • I'm from Chicago and I heart Swirlz. I think they're more like tiny cakes than cupcakes. If you love buttercream frosting, real buttercream frosting, than you'll like these. I like the banana nutella flavor the best. The cake part is banana bread mmmmm

  • Oh my, I'm feeling cupcake crazy this week too. But awesome cupcake pictures =3

    p.s. even the requied code box is about cake D;

  • I adore the mini-cupcakes at Molly's! And the sprinkle station there is fun...try "Cupcakes" at 613 W Briar Pl (off Broadway)

  • Enough cupcakes! Especially ones that I can't have!! :-รพ

Danny, can we change the botcheck to cupcake!?!?

Q: What do foodinmouth bloggers love the most?

    A: Cupcakes!

  • Nic,
Thanks for stopping by!And I think everyone should love buttercream frosting. That should be required as part of being alive or something...

    Kumi,
Gotta move away from this cupcake craze to something else next week! Ohh... what can i eat... hm...

    Jei,
Oh man, for a second there I got confused because there is no Briar Pl in NY... and then google told me it was in Chicago. =) If I am ever back in Chicago, I will give it a shot!

    Janice,
Yo I cannot have these either! Jonathan is just ruining us! AHHHHHHHHhhh!! I will work on changing the bot check to cupcake. hehe
