Tiffin Wallah
Sometimes when you blog, you end up with this backlog of potential entries. You have the pictures for it, but you just never get around to writing about it. You know it is there in one of the fifty folders on your desktop, but you search and you search and you are not sure if you will ever find it. But unlike weapons of mass destruction, these pictures actually do exist. What I remember about Tiffin Wallah was that four friends and I were completely full and it was very affordable (around mid-teens). Does that ever happen to you? A few weeks after an experience, you have forgotten about the details, but you still want to go back? That was my feeling with Tiffin Wallah.
One of the best things of the night was the cauliflower. And I am a bad food blogger because I did not take notes of what we ordered. But look, it looks bright orange, and it is one of the yummiest cauliflower ever. Most of the time cauliflower lacks flavor, but here it was done right. At some classy joints they do pureed cauliflowers which is not as impressive as making an actual cauliflower taste good.
There was also a dish like saag paneer, except it was with tofu. Oddly enough the one thing I remembered about this dish was that it made me eat rice like a maniac. Something about spinach and tofu that just makes me eat rice. Maybe it is programmed in my DNA or something.
And there were these fake meatballs. Usually I prefer real meatballs, but since Tiffin Wallah is an all-vegetarian restaurant, they shy away from ground meat. Again, I have no idea what goes into a vegetarian 'meat' ball but man, that was some good stuff. Do vegetarians eat this good all the time? Me thinks not.
Then we had these stuffed naan looking things, and then a plate that had something that was like a pajun. Next to that was a donut looking thing. Conceptually that dish did not work for me, but it was also the last dish to arrive at the table. This meant that my stomach was fighting to digest as fast as possible. No dice, I only had three bites of that thing and it was fairly forgettable.
Supposedly Tiffin Wallah also does a lunch buffet, and I still have to go try that. But if you are ever craving Vegetarian food, go there. This is coming from a guy who eats half a pig and bone marrow so you know I must really like this place.

I was wondering what camera you use, your pictures come out really nice and bright. I don't think I'm adventurous enough to have bone marrow. Just the thought of it gives me chills...

wonders,
I use a Nikon D80, and either a 50 1.8 lens or a 18-200 telephoto lens. The idea of bone marrow might seem daunting but it is pretty delicious. If you did not know you were eating it, you would just be like, 'Oh, what is the rich, beefy butter-like spread on my toast?'
Ang,
No, I went a few weeks ago. I think this would have swayed my experience of vegetarian week.
Eric,
hahaha, it is good though, give it a try.
DadIt is south Indian food.
SteveYou will have to give me advance noticed if you are coming up here, because that means hell froze over and I will need some warning. ;) Portland!!!
