Noodle Village
Last month there was a post on Grub Street where someone said Joe Ng from Chinatown Brasserie said [Noodle Village] has the best noodles in Chinatown. That got me intrigued and then Kathy from A Passion for Food went to noodle village. A few weeks ago I ducked into the noodle shop on a rainy day.
The noodle shop itself is nice enough. New furniture, looks clean, and basically the complete opposite of 90% of the restaurants in Chinatown. That said, the atmosphere just feels neat and sterile; maybe they got their furniture out of Ikea or something.
They had this house special ramen with seafood. I should have taken a to-go menu or paid more attention to what I ordered... Anyway, the noodle soup was around $7 and packed with goodies like fish balls and cuttlefish. There was a lot of 'other stuff' and I am a big fan whenever they give you many things to eat in addition to the noodles. The noodles were more al dente than I would have liked and as far as ramen noodles go, Sapporo or Rai Rai Ken have better noodles.
The broth was not a seafood broth but it was flavorful. It also had a hint of shacha sauce. Overall I like the value of the noodles at Noodle Village. The one I ate was probably toward the higher end of price spectrum for noodles. You get a good amount of food since they give you more 'other stuff' than most ramen places.
