Porter House New York hamburger

After the masa debacle I walked over to Porter House New York and looked for something to eat. I really was not in the mood to eat a whole steak, and the guy next to me at the bar had a really good looking hamburger and I went with that. There is nothing like eating a burger and talking elections with a stranger at a bar. My friend Jon tells me that this blog is comprised mostly of posts about burgers and desserts, and he is right. Burgers and desserts probably rank really high on my list of really awesome foods to eat. I think this week I will try to cook a bit more at home and the post about it next week. On to the beef we go..

brioche-bun

The Porter House New York burger is fairly pricey at $15 dollars. It is a hefty patty that is nicely charred on the outside. They also do a good job of cooking the burger to order. There is some char on the underside of the brioche bun, which shows they put some thought into toasting the bun. The bottom bun quickly gets soaked with juices from the burger though. A slice of tomato, onion, and lettuce come with the burger just in case you like toppings and do not want to feel like all you ever eat are burgers...

Fries are just OK. They are the thin variety and are fried very well. They remind me of old school McDonald fries, without salt. I like it when a restaurant spices fries for you. For $15 dollars, spiced fries would be a nice touch you know? Even with that said, I still happily gobbled down the fries.

I read about a hamburger today's trip to Blue Ribbon for a burger, and wondering whether it was a fancy pants burger. Based on price, Porter House burger is most definitely fancy pants. There is probably another way to judge hamburgers that are similarly priced, to see which is relatively more fancy than the other. For now I will just say the burger at Porter House is a good meal that will satisfy and fill you up.

  • I'm glad your blog has a lot of burgers. I just worry that they comprise most of your diet as if you were Jughead Jones (ps. he happens to be my favorite Archie comics character).

  • who can go wrong with burgers and desserts? just don't forget the cheese. mmmm cheese.

  • It looks great but rather pricy =x

  • Jon,
Haha, Jughead. I want to expand my horizons though, that is for sure. They say when you look at something for too long, you miss the details and maybe that is my problem. Time to diversify!

    Jen,
There really is not much that can go wrong in a diet of burgers and desserts. Much happiness to be had, that is for sure.

    Kumi,
You are right, it is definitely a bit pricey. Burgers in the city seem to be on a steep incline in prices lately. Sure, there are cheaper places like Shake Shake but the line in the summer is ridiculous.
