Bouchon has a yum cookie
At the end of my vegetarian week, the only thing that kept me from going absolutely cuckoo was dessert. What ended up happening around Saturday and Sunday was that I had this, "almost at the finish line!" thought in my head and it just completely wrecked havoc on my sense of desire. Instead of broccoli, my mind wandered towards BACON. And since I could not have bacon, the next best thing was a chocolate cookie. To minimize the guilt associated with a cookie breakfast, I thought croissants would be a good idea. And Bouchon Bakery came to my rescue.
I suppose the one thing to look for when eating a croissant is whether your taste buds feel inundated with buttery goodness. Mine were tickled by the goodness, maybe not quite inundated. As for texture, the top of the Bouchon croissant has a small crunch and is flaky. Overall I liked it and would get it again next time.
The Bouchon chocolate chunk cookie was quite delicious. It had all the requisite qualities of a good cookie, not too crunchy, not too soft, it was just right. You could say it was the Goldie Locks of cookies. The outside edges of the cookie had a crunch and as you worked towards the middle of the cookie, it became softer and chewier.
Sometimes I wish they would provide a microwave at bakeries and let you warm up your cookie for 15 seconds or something, and replicate the warm gooey-ness as cookies come out of the oven. Nothing really beats that. Does anyone do that?
The thing about going out for croissants is that you have to hit these bakeries before twelve noon on most days, otherwise they run out... maybe not at Bouchon, but I went to a couple random places and they were all out. (Does not mean one cannot revisit the next day..) And I am still not sold on where to go to find the best cookie in the city. *sigh* The search continues.

What would be considered "the best cookie" to you? But I'll just rattle a few that I really like: Levain Bakery's oh-so-gooey c.c.c., Jacques Torres' intense mudslide cookie, and what you've tried already, City Bakery.

Deli,
Perhaps slightly... definitely worth a try though! And I have one more croissant + cookie post coming up tomorrow too!
Tina,
Oh the city bakery cookie is pretty yum. Maybe the thing is that I want these things WARM. I know it is blasphamy to say Chips Ahoy can taste good, but if you microwave a CA cookie, it goes from blah to actually enjoyable.

Just to let you know, Jacques Torres does offer to warm up your cookies if you ask...

Oooh, they will warm it up? Now that is music to my ears!
