kum gang san soon du bu
Winter is definitely upon New York now. There is snow flurries in the forecast every few days and tourist season is in full swing. Since it is so cold, I like eating stuff that warms the soul. Soon du bu does just the trick. Not sure where one goes to find the best soon du bu in Manhattan, but my feeling on it is that most of the time it tastes good. Are they supposed to be super spicy? What is the tofu to seafood ratio supposed to be? And do you eat it with rice or just the stew? Do you put the rice into the stew or take alternate bites of each? How does the United States remove itself from the grips of the OPEC cartel? And how many licks does it take to get to the center of the tootsy pop?
Important questions aside, this is a food blog. I always forget. The banchan selection at Kum Gang San was pretty good. They gave ten different things although I did not get pictures of every one of them. And when a couple of them ran out, they refilled it upon request. They also gave a small salad too, which was just really random. And it was not exactly service with a smile, but it was efficient and to-the-point.
The soon du bu at Kum Gang San was pretty good. It had less seafood than the version at the Kom Tang Soot Bul House. Would it have been better to get more seafood? Sure, but the soon du bu was still very enjoyable. On a cold winter night, it like, heals your soul.
One of the banchan dish they serve is one with (I thinkg) little dried fish in there. They are delicious, but there is nothing for me to compare it to. It is salty and goes well with rice. I could eat that stuff for days. Of course after a while I have to play with my food, and if I had known that it would be the last picture of a blog post, I would have lined up a different word. Either way, eat lots of this.

Hehe, you're funny - and that looks delicious. I do need to know where to get this from, considering we're both New Yawkers...

The dish I like most in Korea restaurant is the various side dishes. I always ate all of them and sometimes asked for more. I do not realy enjoy the main dish though. I wonder whether there is a place where you can order only several side dishes with rice.

I am not sure if you can just order the side dishes and get white rice. If you ask them, I think they would arrange something. It should be cheap, right?
