Sandwich lunch from jacques torres
Sometimes my mom calls me and asks me what I eat. This is my seventh year living in New York City, it is probably obvious that I know how to feed myself. Sometimes that proves to be false. Sometimes for lunch I just eat a sandwich. Good thing mom never asks what kind of sandwich, because in this case, it is an ice cream sandwich. Actually after the ice cream sandwich, real food found its way into my stomach. The main event of the day was sweets though, and my supplier of choice was Jacques Torres.
They have this famous hot chocolate at Jacques Torres and looking at the weather, it is prime time for hot chocolate. I had my introduction to HC from Swiss Miss. I used to like putting marshmallows in the hot chocolate too. The version from JT is all about bring the cocoa back. The stuff is super thick and super rich. Chocolate sensation hits you hard right from the start. If you drink it while hitting the sidewalks, it totally warms you up. About half way through the cup though, the chocolatey-ness becomes a bit much - settle for the smaller cup when you order.
And then we come to the meat and potatoes portion of the meal - the ice cream sandwich. It makes a lot of sense to eat an ice cream sandwich outdoors when it is 40 degrees. It is just two cookies with chocolate chunks and some ice cream in the middle. If eaten separately, I wonder if the cookies and the ice cream would have any wow factor, but when you smash it together into sandwich form it is pretty good and semi-filling if you happen to eat it for lunch.
To wash down the sandwich, JT has this thing called a mudslide cookie. It is densely packed with chocolate flavor and it is a hefty cookie. I bet it would be amazing right when it comes out of the oven, but when eating it cooled, it is just kind of a hard cookie. If the cookie had a higher chewiness factor, I would like it more.
Next time I go to JT's store, I would skip the ice cream sandwich and the mudslide cookie unless it is piping hot on a cookie sheet. There probably are other things that are worth trying, and I would definitely get another hot chocolate.

If you think JT's hot chocolate is rich, you should try City Bakery's...if you haven't yet...IT WILL KILL YOU. Almost.
JT's chocolate chip cookies are awesome on their own! One of my favorites in the city. Or THE WORLD.

City Bakery has a really good pretzel croissant. Also, their hot chocolate is ridiculously rich.

Initially, I thought the dark green bars are chars. How come you put the plastic bag on a char? After taking several looks, I now finally realize that they are not. Don't laugh you guys!
