Yum Thai
Thai food is one of those things like cocoa puffs, where it's almost always good. At least for me, that is always the case. My friend Ming tells me that I should be more discerning with my reviews and you know, train my palate, but usually my free time is spent flaming Michael Pollen lovers on various websites. Anyway, I like Thai food generally, and the only place in the heart of Midtown Manhattan is Yum Thai, and actually they are pretty good for Midtown prices.
Yum Thai really is not ever going to win points for decor, but actually there are worse places. They are basically a take-out place, and they feature all your common Thai dishes like Pad Thai or [insert meat] + basil or [insert meat] + curry.
Pad Kee Mao is a good choice if you want to mix it up and not get Pad Thai. It's long rice noodles with chicken, basil, and chili. There is a nice kick to the dish, and they also give you some hot sauce if you need it. For $8 and change (after tax), it's a pretty decent portion in midtown for the quality of food.
