Food in Mouth

eating noodles

Super Taste is yummy

One of my favorite things is a hot bowl of beef noodle soup. And in the english speaking parts of Chinatown, I've gone to a few of them. By far, the best is at the bare bones restaurant called Super Taste. It is some sort of weird translated chinglish, because those two words just do not make any sense to me. They must only know about 65% English, which is fine, because they know their noodles.

When Robert Sietsema wrote about Super Taste in the Village Voice, it got noticed a bit by the foodie crowd in New York. They are located by the intersection of Canal St. and Eldridge St. To be specific, it's on the east side of Eldridge, maybe 40 feet south of canal st. You cannot miss it now that I gave you these awesome GPS-like directions.

I've been going there for over a year now, and they are consistently good. You might be slightly intimidated by the fact the main menu on the wall is all in Chinese, but worry not. They have a take out menu that is in English. If you get confused or you wanna show off the Chinese that you (and I) can't read, the money ball is the second thing down on the left hand column. Spicy beef with hand pulled noodles. Just point to that, smile, then sit down where there's space.

The beef noodles come with some slices of beef which are kinda unspectacular. The best part is definitely the noodles and the spicy broth. If you try a lot of spicy beef noodle soup in Chinatown, you'll find that it's pretty difficult to find any that scores the holy trinity of beef, noodles, and broth. The noodles here have bite and they're never soggy. The broth is always spot on, and the reason I forgive the beef blunder is because of their amazing dumplings.

They do the most common type of Chinese dumplings, which is the pork + chives. They do it better than anyone else. It is three dollars for twelve dumplings, which is slightly more than what you would pay at some other dumpling places in Chinatown, but forget about those places. EAT HERE.

After saying all that, I am gonna review a different noodle place next week. Stay tuned.
