Instant Oatmeal and weight loss
Food: 1,765,243. Danny: 0. Yup, the diet isn't working too well. I'm not going regale you with another shot of my stomach. Throwing up once is probably enough for most of you, and if you're not even drunk, it's not worth it. I've been eating oatmeal on a regular basis for a lot of reasons. One, people think it's good for the human body. I'm not sure where the studies come from but oatmeal mostly taste like nothing, until you add sugar. Then, it tastes like chunky pudding. Mmmm... chunky puddin'. I suppose if you're on a diet, you could do way worse than chunky pudding. The instant oatmeal from Trader Joe's is pretty awesome because it's one of the cheapest on the market. It should be priced around $2.29 in NYC, which means rest of the country probably gets it for like $2. It's much cheaper than McCann's instant oatmeal, which I've tried and mostly tastes like Trader Joe's. After all, drawing lines in the sand when it comes to mush is kind of ridiculous. And it's instant mush too!
At some point recently I looked and had lost 7 pounds. That's about a third of the way to my goal. All is good and stuff, but then I saw some dumplings in Chinatown and ate that. Then I saw a bao and ate that. Then I went home and had some frozen fish balls. And then I had some ramen. And chocolate. You know what I mean, it's so easy to fall off of that wagon. My brain is just not built for structure. Anyway, nothing ground breaking to report, just wanted to update my current futile attempt to fight the plateauing of weight loss.

Have you tried steel-cut oats? A MILLION times better than instant. Really, I'm serious. You can even make it savory by adding eggs, etc. Some people even do soy sauce or fish sauce, but I don't take it that far. I'm good with eggs or maple syrup.

@Tia,
Oh man, it's that much better? Then I will give it a try. That adds calories to put an egg in there though. It'll be like crazy grits, I bet.

If not millions, I would say billions! Yeah, kinda like grits or polenta, but chunkier and chewier. Yeah, it adds calories, but it's still a pretty healthy breakfast. A little parmesen with the egg is good too.

How do you feel about steel cut oats? I always have a can of the quick-cook variety on hand... you can mix apple cider into it as a cooking liquid and chunks of banana with some honey melt nicely into it to make it taste hella good. I suppose you can do that with rolled oats, too, but I find steel cut oats more satisfying and filling.

Ugh, I hate diets. I am on one myself. However, when I find myself walking around from place to place in search of food, I've lost the pounds much faster than slaving in the gym. So I guess my advice is, make yourself work for the food and walk.
Oh and I hate oatmeal of any kind.

@James,
First, I gotta eat some steel cut oats and get back to you. Gotta polish off my new box of instant though. The apple flavor is not as good as the maple brown sugar though... I will take up your suggestions with the bananas though.
@hungry,
Ah yes... diets are evil. Unfortunately walking just makes me hungrier. haha. That's the downside of exercising... it builds this tremendous appetite that's fine while you continue to exercise but as you probably know... those first few weeks after one starts to slack off, the appetite doesn't slack off as fast!
