Buying frozen dumplings from Sheng Wang
There's a website called, Doing it wrong. That's usually what I'd say whenever I make dumplings at home. See, I compare my homemade dumplings to frozen dumplings purchased from various restaurants in Chinatown. One main difference is that the little lovely dumps from the restaurants all look similar after you cook it. The outside looks like your brain. Really! It has the weird peaks and valleys that you expect from brain matter. I don't actually know what brain matter looks like, except what I see on TV. But dumplings constitute delicious brain matter. Mmm... These particular ones are from Sheng Wang.
Recently I saw Sheng Wang on Robyn's blog. I had to go get some of these for myself. Except I don't want to walk to Eldridge street every time. It's much easier to buy a bag of 50 for $8 and make them at home whenever I want! Ah... sweetness.
The dumplings are pork and chives and some of the best things ever. They only make this version and I'm sure they add some MSG goodness in there. After I bought the frozen dumplings, I noticed by the trash right outside, they had had two huge empty containers of MSG. I grew up on this stuff so it doesn't really bother me when it's used in moderation. It hasn't killed me this far, I'm not going to let yuppie rationalization take me away from dumpling deliciousness. That's right! FUCK the (food) PO-lice!
Since these things have chives in them, I tell myself it's ok, that I'm getting all my daily-needed vitamins in there. Mmmm.. healthy. Really though, I see nothing wrong with a dinner comprised only of frozen dumplings and chili oil. Really, what's wrong with it? To make it more healthy, you could cook a hard-boiled egg as you cook the dumplings. OOOr, you could cook a poached egg... egg that's poached by dumpling juices. Damn. I gotta try that tonight!
Oh and who's still trying to lose weight these days? It's a good month after people have made their new years resolutions. I'm sure 'weight loss' is on 70% of people's resolution and of those, probably only 20% manage to lose weight. (Wow, numbers are so easy to throw out there when you make it up. I love writing a blog). Today the NYTimes did a story about competitive weight loss. They talk about how two coworkers competed against each other to see who could lose more weight.
It's a genius idea. It uses what are called 'commitment devices' to achieve the weight loss goal. A NYTimes blog covered it over a year ago. It's good to see they pay reports to report something their blog covered a long time ago. Maybe that's why print is going out of business... They've actually done a study of this with smokers and this helped smokers get rid of the habit.

@bionicgrrrl,
The power of boppy is pretty strong. I think her blog will also make me want to go try Tiny's Sandwich Shop and eat macarons all day...
@Su-Lin,
Yes! Go MSG! I don't like how some ppl vilify it
@Ang,
Sodium level? Did you just say bacon? Yes, I just had some bacon...
@Steve,
Nah, that stuff is stuck on there. I've tried... you need like a sharp edge to scrape it off... like a knife. It's pretty hardcore.

I almost wrote my name as Boppy -_-*
I want it! Cry. And MSG is not harmful to people... people are just crazy crybabies and say "it makes me thirsty, I must be allergic to it" - lots of things make me thirsty,... never mind, I get all grumpy lol
