Food in Mouth

Haiku - one man stands

Inauguration haiku

Man, what an inauguration right? I guess it's too late to tell you to turn away if you're not into blatant pro-Obama talk on this blog. What a speech! Ah... I love it. It was important to find a haiku that's on the theme of the inauguration. Of course no haiku could ever serve it justice, at least not a haiku limited to food words. This week I'm glad that the haiku comes after a Tuesday. Posts are easier to write when you're happy with life and full of hope for the country.

dumplings

This past weekend I once again sampled the dumplings at Mandoo Bar. It was the first time I tried the boiled pork dumplings there. It was quite tasty and just as good as any other boiled dumpling you can find around the city. Nearly $1 per dumpling, this was not that cheap compared to other dumpling shops around the city.

I also tried some fried dumplings at Mandoo Bar. In Chinese dumpling shops, fried dumplings usually mean pan fried dumplings. Here, they seem to have deep fried the dumplings because the entire outter wrapper was crispy. The boiled ones were slightly better.

snow-people

I end this post with a picture of snow men in Central Park because it's been freezing the last week or so. And even though the weather has been chilly, I think many people around the country are full of hope and warmth. We're also all ready for life to keep moving forward and so we march towards a better tomorrow. The best part about all this is that I can stop thinking about politics for another four years and just eat cupcakes all day long. It's good to get back to the simple stuff.

  • I liked Mandoo Bar but I forget which ones I preferred. I suppose I could go look it up but I'm lazy.

    And to answer your question (which I did on my own blog's comments): a bad one or an Americanized one. :) I grew up unable to eat rice unless it was sauced up and good, and sometimes - gasp - I'd even put ketchup on some of Mom's homecooking. Terrible child. (I rarely eat ketchup now, ironically.)

  • good haiku! much better than the random ones, like dog whisperer one.

  • i love all your haikus and your method for displaying them, and i needed to tell you that this one is particularly wonderful. :)

  • @Yvo,

    Ketchup really isn't as bad as this one time when someone told me they put butter on it... uh yea, just butter.

    @Ang,

    Don't make fun of the Dog Whisperer, he has a good show...

    @grace,

    Thank you! I cannot take credit for the way they are displayed though... they're just magnets and that's how they look :P
