Dog whisperer haiku

This week's haiku was inspired by the Dog Whisperer. Not too sure why the word 'whisper' is even in the magnetic poetry set of words, and I'm not going to argue with it. It works. It's random. It's a haiku! Yesssss. This week was clean the hard drive and look for old photos week or something. The rest of the post contains a couple of pictures from this random bakery in the Detroit area. If you're in the mood for a real entry, I did a guest post about Carl's Cheesesteak for Steph. Have a read if you want, and yes it's in English.

Now on to the randomness! In the Japanese bakery in Detroit, there were lots of random things. There was a sandwich that was filled with noodles. Seriously, just instead of meat, they had noodles. It was a carb-loaded delight. Another thing that looked like overkill was the deep fried hot dog bun. Many Asian bakeries have hot dog buns, but this was the first time that I saw someone do a hot dog bun and then drop it in the deep fryer. It sorta looks delicious but it's one of those things you probably have to eat really fast right when it comes out of the fryer. If you wait, it probably just tastes like hot dog with oil dressing. That ain't hot.

They also had this Doraemon bun. The food blogger in me should have bought one but I passed on it because mom had tasty treats at home. It's funny because it obviously is supposed to appeal to kids but if you're a kid, do you ever think about how you're eating Doraemon? It's like if you like dinosaurs and a bakery had dinosaur cookies, you'd totally be all up in that. I guess that's what love is. "I love watching you on tv and now you shall be in my belly!" Right.

Just in case you're in a philanthropic mood this season (or if you want to write off some stuff on your itemized tax deduction), Menu for Hope is going on right now through December 24, 2008. It's an annual raffle/fund raiser for the UN World Food Program. Basically you can buy a raffle ticket for $10 dollars and apply that raffle ticket to a prize. Your chances of winning probably aren't huge but the cost of the ticket goes to a great cause and very rarely do you get to donate money with a chance to win a prize that's worth way more than the money you donated. So if you're in a giving mood or if you want to write off some money on your taxes, you know what to do. And in case you want an accountant to help you write off some money on your tax return, I know a really good accountant and can refer you.

Christmahannaukwanzaka has already started. So hope everyone is having a good holiday season. For forth and increase your body fat percentage!

  • Those cookies look so cute, but I don't blame you for not getting them. I notice cute things never taste that hot, especially at an Asian bakery.

  • Haha, I don't eat things with bunnies on them, I'm kind of bunny-obsessed (though I eat White Rabbit candies or used to before China started making them with melamine).

    Oh, about Menu for Hope, the statistician in me (there isn't really one, I swear) says that if you really want to win, just enter at the last minute and enter the one with the least entries, you can count. *shrug* My friend won something the first year we entered - 2 years ago now I think - but she's just one of those lucky people.

  • For xmas, in honour of all things cupcake, I rewrote a cupcake song to the words of "Danny Boy"...

    Oh Danny boy, cupcakes, cupcakes are baking

    From SoHo to Tribeca, yummy treats.....

    The summer's gone, and all the folks are snacking

    'Tis you, cupcakes must bake and I must eat.

    But come ye back when summer's in the Harlem

    Or when New Jersey's hushed and white with cream

    'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow

    Oh Danny boy, the cupcakes, I need them so.

    And if you come, when all the cupcakes are baking

    And I am hungry, as hungry I well may be

    You'll come and find the place where I am hungry

    And kneel and say I "Ave" a cupcake for thee.

    And I shall eat, a soft and sweet fine cupcake

    And all my cupcakes will warm and sweeter be

    If you'll not fail to tell me that you're baking

    I'll simply sleep in peace till cupcake time.

    I'll simply sleep in peace till cupcake time...

  • @bionicgrrrl,
    yea if I get every cute thing in any bakery, my stomach would probably hate me. The other thing is, sometimes when it looks cute, it doesn't mean it tastes good...

    @Yvo,
    that's a good point about the odds. The thing is that the ones with the least entries are usually the ones with the least impressive prize. I guess people like the an impressive prize from a David Lebovitz versus lesser prizes that are easier to win.

    @Cupcake,
    Wow. Um. Happy holidays cupcake, make sure you have some yourself!
