Birch beer haiku and Blue Marble ice cream
My weekend disappeared and it felt so good. This past Friday Gears of War 2 came out and I have been camping at my friends apartment. This is probably what Meth addicts do when they get something new to shoot up. Fortunately the only downside to xbox 360 is sleep deprivation. This week's haiku is about birch beer, which I thought was the same thing as root beer. Wikipedia says no. Well, whatever wikipedia says is the truth. Recently I had some root beer at the Shake Shack on the UWS, and I saw Tina of The Wandering Eater try the root beer at Momofuku Ssam Bar. I just want to drink root beer and play horde all day long. This work thing is getting in the way.
On Saturday I went to dinner with Ming and Jeremy. The fun discussion of the night was about seeing opportunities. See, we went to Blue Marble Ice Cream after dinner and it was just us in the little shop on Atlantic Avenue. Just us and the chick working behind the counter. If life was a movie, that scene would have been perfect. Imagine if Woddy Allen wrote a romantic comedy about a Sufjan Steven's fan and a girl in an ice cream parlor. The scene was poised for cinematic greatness, or as much of it as you could achieve in a softly lit ice cream parlor. But it was not to be.
After we left, Jeremy told Ming about how perfect the situation was since the store was empty and it would have been a good time/place for him to chat up the chick. Apparently Ming didn't see the situation the same way. It makes me wonder about the way we see the world around us. Mostly I see cupcakes and more cupcakes. And some people see Girls, girls, girls. With Thanksgiving on the horizon, and Christmas right after that, what are you seeing these days?
