Food in Mouth

Autumn haiku and Patisserie Claude

"Thank god man! I was starting to think you were gay!" That's the kind of love I get from my friends. Fucking assholes. Gotta love 'em. Between that and the occasional name calling of, "Dannila" sometimes the love is just endless. Ok, kids, what did we just learn in the last three sentences?

1. Danny can't count.
2. Sometimes he acts like a girl (lipstick?! what lipstick?)
3. OMFG I cussed.

How does that line go again? "Things fall apart; the center cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world." At some point I was going to let foul language on the site, and after a year of doing this... what better time than now?! I won't litter your screen with it THAT much, but consider this a notice for those who are wound as tight as the FCC. Even though language restrictions has fallen apart, my love of stuffing food in my mouth is still in tact. Oh, so are these haikus.

brioche croissant

This week's haiku was courtesy of Ang. I can get used to this, randomly having haikus made for me. It's also quite a relevant poem considering that summer is officially gone. On a rainy Sunday couple of weeks ago, I hit up Claude's with Steph. Maybe the damp weather altered the dough that day, but the croissant was slightly off. Buttery, but not as flakey as could be. I still enjoyed the pastries as an afternoon snack.

mousse mousse-innards

After the bread elements, it was onto dessert! Mmm... chocolate mousse. Light and airy, it was easy to follow one bite after another. The chocolate flavor was strong and the sweetness was balanced by a hot cup of coffee. For a rainy day, it was the perfect treat in a quaint little setting.

Apparently Patisserie Claude is closing at the end of the year. He said so as much to some other patron in the store. So get some while you can. If you go, the Almond Croissant and quiche both look bangin' as well.

foodinmouth

Yup, what you see there is the first of it's kind. It's a food in mouth t-shirt! And one of you can win it for free. I believe in reader appreciation. But the truth is I get a warm fuzzy feeling whenever I see the comment count go up by one. There are only a few things better than that... like winning the spelling bee (which I've obviously have never done...) Since I love comments, this contest will be made very simple. If you've ever made a comment on Food in Mouth at any point prior to this post, you are eligible. To enter the contest, just comment on this post. And for those of you who've commented but never wanted to leave your email address... well, tough luck. No way for me to figure out how to distinguish one 'name' from another. On Thursday night (10/9) at 11:59pm I'll randomly select a winner using a random number generator. So if you want this poop colored t-shirt, comment away!

I have a couple more of the same shirt so maybe next week I'll think of a couple wackier contests. Good luck. Oh and obviously, leave your email address if you are eligible and want to enter.

  • So sad! I've always wanted to go to Patisserie Claude but never had the chance... now it looks like I never will... That chocolate mousse looks really good, esp. in the second picture where I can see the texture. And in a chocolate shell too...mmmm....

I prefer to think of the t-shirt as "chocolate"-colored ;)

  • That croissant looks like a mouse with a tail -=X How was the brioche? They both look yummy, even when it looks like a rodent..lols

  • Uhh... maybe I'm color blind (this isn't the first time that's been suggested) but the shirt looks grey/steel colored to me...

  • I will attest to the shirt being more brown than grey. This photo is not representative of the actual shirt...

  • That's a pretty good haiku...then I realized it wasn't Danny who wrote it.

  • Veronica,
    haha, yes, chocolate colored...

    Wonders,
I can assure you it tasted nothing like a rodent. haha. The brioche was good but suffered from the same problem as the croissant. I wonder what humidity does to bread making...

    Yvo,
You're not colorblind, at least not in this instance... the shirt is officially Chestnut colored.

    Ang,
yea I should work on the photo taking...

    Jack,
    Ohnoyoudidnt

  • OMG, Patisserie Claude is closing? Do you know why? So sad. I love the croissants there. Argh, this is depressing.

  • bionicgrrrl,
    I think he's retiring..

  • oh mousse, airy mousse. i must go prior to closing. i want mousse to be the next cupcake. Can i please win the contest? Brownie won a contest this week, and we're highly competitive.

  • Brownie won a contest? Did she win one of those tickets?

  • yes indeedy. she's going to SWEET with her partner in life, not partner in crime. I'll be at the madonna concert.

  • bionicgrrrl won. the random number was 4 and i just went in order of who commented.

  • I love my FIM Tshirt. Thanks! And in case you want to know, the unisex small fits me. A guy who usually wears a small should get the medium.
