Semi homemade curry and Michael Phelps
ohai, u r my hero. At least that's what it sounded like in my head when I read about how Michael Phelps eats 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day! I would love to be able to eat that much everyday, it sounds like a dream. Of course he swims five or six hours a day probably. But just think of how AMAZING this food blog would be if I could eat 10,000 calories a day! Oh man, that thought still has me giddy. I also get giddy about having tasty food that is easy to make at home. The idea is that if it's easy to make, then I can make a lot, if there's a lot, I CAN EAT A LOT! nom nom nom. Japanese curry in a box is about the easiest thing to make ever and you can make a huge pot to last three or four days.
The best part about this Japanese curry in a box thing is that you can make a huge pot that lasts for days. The other good part is that it only takes chopping work since you do not have to season anything. Basically, this is the Japanese version of semi-homemade. If Sandra Lee morphed into a rotund Chinese dude with bad grammar, then that would be me. Oh, well I would also have to dye my hair blonde and get a boob job or something. Good news is that I've had bleached hair before and I'm starting to develope br... wait a minute, no. I am trying to run three times a week to counteract that. And back to the food...
The directions on the back of the box tell you how to make the curry. Basically you add onions, potatoes, meat of your choice, and water. Super simple really, and you can add other stuff like carrots as well if you want. You put all this in a huge pot and let it simmer for short time and voila. Dinner. And lunch. And breakfast.
By the way, Japanese curry tastes nothing like Indian or thai curries. It's just two completely different animals. I think it tastes sweeter and it always has this brown-ish yellow color. I would not go as far as to call it an acquired taste, but like-ability mileage may vary.
And if you're keeping score at home, I really have eaten this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner this week. And no, even when I eat it three times a day, it does not equal 10,000 calories. That is just a ridiculous number to hit. As for Michael Phelps, I looked up calorie information for Peking Duck since those athletes are all in Beijing now. At nearly 1500 calories per duck, that dude could eat SIX ducks all by himself everyday. How awesome would that be? Maybe like one duck for breakfast, three for lunch, and two for dinner. Hmmm.. maybe next time I will make duck curry instead...
Are there any good semi-homemade things you like to do at home?

OMG You made a big ass pot of curry!! Is this one hot or is it just midly spicy? I buy the medium and it's not even remotely spicey...it does look delicious though. I think I still have some in the pantry but not sure if it's still edible...mine didnt come in two seperate packages, they were just little bricks you break off. I'm gonna make it again when it gets cooler -=D Your pictures always make me hungry...

wow, i just bought a box of golden curry 2 days ago. yeah, usually i try to make everything from scratch, but prepackaged japanese/korean curry is one of those things i won't mind making since it's so easy and actually good. there is a recipe online i've been meaning to try for making wafu curry from scratch, but i haven't yet (http://www.saveur.com/food/new-recipes/wafuu-curry-49641.html). i guess my other guilty pleasure is doctoring ramen. i add meat, corn, onions, mushrooms, scallions, and a raw egg just at the end. yum, quick and delicious.

I think I would break the bank if I had to eat 10,000 calories a day.

I can't stand that Sandra Lee woman. I think I would even pick Rachel Ray over Sandra Lee. That's how much I don't care for her or her food or her stupid table decorations. Seriously?

Yum, Japanese curry. What did you think of that brand? I bought a box once (can't remember which one it was) but I thought that the curry had a strange taste to it. Hpw's the running going?

Wonders,
The box said 'hot' but it was not hot at all... I usually make this during the winter months too but it was on sale so...
bionicgrrl,
Ohhh, you add corn! That always throws me off whenever I go to Saporo for their ramen. It always catches me off guard but corn is tasty.
Janice,
Don't break the bank... just eat cheesecake.
Ang,
Well, I cannot remember the last time I watched an entire episode of anything on the food network. She was cool when she first came out but she later on it wasn't as cool. I think there are only so many semi-homemade tips out there, once you saturate it, you gotta fill it with crap
Agnes,
That brand was pretty good. I just ate some again. I would probably buy it again but mostly these things taste about the same to me. Oh and the running is uh.. it's going ;)
