Haiku cravings and cupcake jones

It is one of those things, where you wake up really excited and all you want to do is devour... buttered bread. Or cupcakes. Or hummus with bacon. Either way, you surely know what I am talking about. Yea... Oh and my bad about a haiku last week. Summer is in full swing and last Sunday I was busy stuffing my face as I tried to get into shape. Wait, that makes no sense... maybe I can just talk about some cupcakes from Portland. We all love PDX, right?

The cupcakes you see here are from Cupcake Jones in Portland, Oregon. They specialize in filled cupcakes that have a delicious center. Jack, Gracathon (Grace + Jonathan) were there with me to help eat some cupcakes. When we first saw the sign, I actually felt full from brunch but they were like, "But you are Danny! You eat cupcakes! That is what you do!" Ok maybe they just said that it would be good for the blog, and I agreed.

The cupcake you see above is Cupcake Jones' signature cupcake called, The Pearl. The cupcakery is located in the Pearl District in PDX and I think that is where they got the name. All I remember about the cupcake was that it was the most delicate and balanced cupcake of the four that we tried. The cake was the softest and most moist and the frosting was not overpowering.

chocolate-cupcake

The chocolate cupcake you see here is called Downtown Chocolate Brown. It was a tad sweet, and if you are not a fan of chocolate, then the filling would probably just be overkill for you. If you bleed cocoa powder like me, then you would devour such a cupcake, and exclaim to your friend Jack, "Yo, why you wipe off all the frosting. Gimme that!" I think in real life I just shook my head and laughed, but imaginary land is so much more fun. Right?

Later Jack told me, "Man I feel old, they did not make cupcake with filling when I was a kid." I have to agree. Since when did this crazy trend start? Yes, it is an awesome trend, but how did it originate?

  • I only remember the storebought ones having fillings. Those were practically inedible though. It was like black forest cake knock offs. The worst!

  • You DID blog about us...THANKS!

It was great to meet you guys.

    Glad you enjoyed your cupcakes!

    See you again,

    ~Lisa

  • Looking at that icing just makes me think I ate a bag of saccharine.

  • Jack. Saccharine is zero calories. You had a regular ole bag of sugar.

  • Yea Jack, stop watching your weight. We get it, Mr. Sportsmanship cannot gain an extra pound. It's just frosting! And it's good!

  • I must say, the chocolate cupcake sounds DIVINE.... I've never had a filled cupcake before, but I've always eaten icing in copious amounts!!
