Food in Mouth

sweet-potatoes

Not so sweet potato pie

If I ever want a reality check, I usually just have to check in with my family. Over Thanksgiving my mom told me, "My food actually looks better than what your photos make it look like." Oh snap. "You need to get better at photography. Why don't you go read a book or something, take a class." Last night my sister told me, "Yea your blog is getting kind of lame." Double snap. snap.. If this was a comic book, right here is where we insert, "KAPOW!" Well, the last two months I have been in a writing funk for whatever reason, but now that has passed. I actually have a cache of old pictures to put up here. Let's starting with the botched sweet potato pie attempt.

It started off as a good idea in my head, but my execution just lacked luster. I need to learn how to read recipes, maybe learn some math again. Maybe I just do not know anything about math. I roasted the sweet potatoes for about an hour and a half and they got really soft. That part worked. Then I started to get bored by the process and made a ambivalent face with the material (it is like a smilie face that does not smile). See. The face said it all. (Note to my neighbors who do not know I blog, I hope twelve of you drive your car tomorrow and find the smilie face drawn in the snow on your car window. Sometimes I just do not have enough pie filling to play with and need snow covered windows instead. Aaaaaand back to the blogging, no more kindergarten goodness).

I mashed the sweet potatoes and that worked out fine, and then I added the eggs and the heavy cream and the spices. And then it was lumpy. I should have blended it to get it all smooth, but nooooo, someone gets hungry and cannot do math and then over bakes the pie a little. It still served as pretty good breakfast for about three days.

  • that math video is hilarious.

  • It is the best. I could watch that thing on a loop.

  • Can you wrap the sweet potato with wet towl and put into microwave for 2-5 minutes depending upon the size of sweet potato until it gets soft instead of putting into the oven for one and half hour?
