Sweet Melissa has a good cupcake
The cupcake craze continues! Actually I just do not feel like writing today, that is why this post is about a cupcake. This post almost writes itself! In the Carroll Gardens and Park Slope neighborhoods in Brooklyn, there is a pastry shop called, Sweet Melissa Patisserie. Of course they have cupcakes! And this past weekend, I strolled on by to try one at the Carroll Gardens.
Chocolate cupcake with peanut butter buttercream frosting. This was quite possibly the best tasting frosting ever. Maybe this has to do with the fact that I like peanut butter. The cupcake was pretty decent too, although not out of the world. Paired with the frosting, each bite was heaven. If you read about Frank Bruni's most recent journey in Rome, then you surely noticed his quibble with the dollar to Euro exchange rate. "But the impediment to all of this Roman joy — or, more accurately, the factor diminishing it ever so slightly — was price."
Better to let the man say it than to say it on my own. The fact is I love cheap and delicious and at $3 dollars, it was not cheap. It was twice as expensive as a Sugar Sweet Sunshine cupcake. Is rent more expensive in Carroll Gardens than in the Lower East Side? I wonder if Sweet Melissa just charges more because they can? Or because they are a patisserie that does not focus on cupcakes, and thus the task switching from tarts to cupcakes take away valuable time from making more revenue sensible items. Who knows? All I know is it is three dollars.
Sometimes my focus on price deters from the irreverent writing on this blog. Instead of writing a good post, sometimes I spend more time playing Pixel Junk Monsters at my friends house. It is a fantabulous game that really sucks time away. Oh and there is a huge BBQ in New York this weekend. Who knows how bad the lines are?

Brownie and I know how bad the lines are, we went last year. This year we got a Fast Pass. What day are you going? It's packed, but good good eats. You'll eat 'til bursting.

thateatconomist,
More cupcakes in the future too! A few more and I might be all cupcaked out, but not yet!
Blondie,
Good eats til I am bursting?! Well that sounds like a good time. Gonna have to wait to see the weather report to figure out which is a good day to stop by.

I can't get over the amount of frosting on this cupcake! I guess I'll have to make the trek back over for some peanut butter goodness.

Sweet Melissa is awesome...the chocolate hazelnut madeleines are insanely good.
As for the BABBQBP, you should get there around 11:30am. Go with as many heads as possible and have each person get on separate lines (you can purchase more than 1 plate at a time), then regroup for the feeding frenzy. Lines are long but go relatively quick. I have a drool-worthy set on my flickr stream from last year's event.
*Oh...and usually Tabla on the corner of 25th has a small booth that is always worth trying.

Jenny,
The frosting was so good! Yes, a trek back for pb goodness would be a great idea!
Dennis,
Ooooh, madeleines! Thank you for the suggestion Dennis! Your flickr set from last year's BABBQ was awesome! I will go with your suggestion and try to line up around 11:30!
Wonders,

I think your post is still written well. Price has everything to do with anything we buy! I can try on the most beautiful dress, but if the price tag doesn't fit, I put it down.
