Portland food trucks

This is more of a mini post than anything else since I am still going through the pictures. You ever have that problem where you have 7 gigs of pictures and only 1 gig of space on your hard drive? Yea welcome to my world. Back to Portland... one thing I noticed about downtown Portland was that there were quite a few food trucks. There would be these parking lots and at the edge of the lot would be a line of food trailers just selling any and everything. Why do we not have this in New York? WHY Mayor Bloomberg?!? Yes, you want green carts but how about some thai trailers? Or taco trucks? Huh?

Seriously, in PDX they have trailers with Thai, Vietnamese, Greek, Mexican, cheesesteak, burgers, and crepes. You name it and they probably have it. When was the last time you saw pho served out of a truck/trailer? I had almost every meal pseudo planned out for my entire stay in Portland... (more on that later and why the dots...) therefore I could not expend the energy to eat a real meal at a truck. However, there is always room in my stomach for a taco.

A simple chorizo taco with some hot sauce and my afternoon was complete. Porky and flavorful, the chorizo was hot off the griddle as was the tortilla. Simple street side food could not have been better (at least here in the U.S.) Sure here in NYC you can get biriyani or Jamaican food, the overwhelming majority of the tiny pushcarts just offer your typical "chicken and/or lamb over rice." Talk about boring and predictable. If there is one thing I have come to learn, it is that I want unpredictable and delicious in my life. Why is PDX so far away for lunch?!

  • I agree! NYC needs better street food! we shouldn't have to truck to Red Hook (and only in the middle of the summer)! Now I want some pho.
