Salsa
I was supposed to post this before the Super Bowl, because salsa is kind of a common party food and everything. I made the salsa and sat there and ate it with Tostitos with lime but then I got lost in Amy Winehouse's hair and forgot to post this. Seriously, maybe someone should tell her that hairspray is better as a Broadway show, and less so as a fashion statement. Then again, my family wants to nominate me for What Not To Wear therefore I should not give fashion advice. Oh right, food... (Go Giants!) After the last baking debacle I figured it would be a good idea to stick with something simple. How do you mess up salsa?
Pungent onions. That is how you mess it up. I picked a red onion because it looks cool and it provides more color than a Spanish onion or a Vidalia. Maybe next time I will switch it up. Anyway this recipe is super simple. The one thing I tried this time was to remove the skin on the tomatoes and not use the seeds because the salsa would be too watery.
To remove the skin, I dunked the plum tomatoes in boiling water for fifteen to twenty seconds and removed it from the heat and then dunked it in ice water. After that, the skin just comes off like wardrobe malfunctions during Super Bowls. But if you do it wrong on some of the tomatoes then the skin is a pain, which you can see in the picture because there is still some skin
Taking the seeds out is fairly simple too, basically after you quarter the tomatoes, you slide you knife through to cut the seeds away from the meat of the tomato. Wow, I really should learn how to write with descriptive language, huh? But that would make me a writer that tries and come on, that is not me.
After you do all that, you cut up the tomatoes and combine it with the diced onions, and add some jalapeno peppers. Squeeze some lime juice in there and if you have cilantro (which I did not), then you can add that too if you dig that kind of stuff. I was pretty satisfied with the salsa and even at it for breakfast one day. Do not hate, it was good.

Cilantro makes it better, I think. How come your picture of the tomatoes make them look more vibrant than they do in real life? Tomatoes should not look that red in February.

mmm! those photos are tasty!
danny, try slicing the onions and soaking them in cold water to get some of the bite out before mixing in with the salsa. but that takes time, so maybe next time put less in :)
i also love cilantro.

Ok then, 'dip once or twice' ;)

Ang,
Because of a thing called photoshop. But actually they looked like that for the most part, plus when you parboil anything it makes the color more vibrant.
Barb,
Oh that is a good tip, I will try that next time. Thank you.
Deli,
Since I ate the whole thing myself? Twice, three times, maybe more? ;)
