Corn bread
Usually foods that I grew up with can make me feel good. For a moment stress, bills, and work obligations fade into the background. Some foods just have a way to make it seem like I am on vacation, and the only thing that matters is the party that is going on in my mouth. I never ate corn bread as a child, yet I love it the same way that I love pigs feet for instance. (What, you never ate pigs feet as a child? What kind of childhood did you have? Was you robbed???) Corn bread just makes me forget. Forget what you ask? Forget that my friend's girlfriend continuously beat me on battle mode in Guitar Hero III. Oh the tears. Thank you corn bread.
I tried the recipe on the back of the bag of cornmeal. The first time I tried it, I followed the recipe and it was kind of dry. The second time (or this time), I added more butter and some heavy cream in addition to the milk that was called for in the recipe. The corn bread came out more moist, but the additional dairy drowned out the hint of saltiness that I seek with corn bread. As a side note, the best corn bread I ever had was probably at Mesa Grill. It has been a few years though.
Also, a lot of recipes out there call for a cast iron skillet. I do not own one, but I do own a cheap pie pan from Target, and that works fine too. Target and corn bread, two things that make my life much easier. The corn bread really helped but when you get drubbed like that, the only things that help are warm corn bread and eggnog spiked with Kalua. What? You do not drink alone? At home? With a black haired rabbit? It is just me then.
One last note, just want to thank Scott and Dennis for song suggestions in the last post. My friend Pat just loaned me his old mp3 player and I am new to this whole phenomenon. What I realized was that upbeat music make me walk faster, and it has been cold outside so why linger? The music that plays in the background when you are home drinking with the rabbit is quite different than the music you want while racing like an idiot to catch MTA buses.

you shouldn't be talking about a PET rabbit in a food blog.

I just wonder how come you can have so many thoughts regarding eating a food. It is amazing. I have never tried a corn bread, but I would like to have a try.
You know what? Last night, I saw a TV program that introduces various kind of foods in Chicago. It includes Greek, Italian, Chinese, Porlish, German, Indian, Mexican.... The program brings in a bit of settlement history of migrants and restaurants' background. It is very interesting. The host published a book called "The food in Chicago". One day, I may see a book called "food in mouth" or " The food with Danny" on the market.
